Gerhard Adrian has been President of the Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD) (German Weather Service) since July 2010. Previously he was Head of DWD's Business Area Research and Development until 2006 when he served as Vice-President.
Professor Adrian was appointed Professor of Meteorology at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in 2003. Since July 2010, Prof. Adrian has been Germany's Permanent Representative with World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and Member of the Executive Council.
Prof. Adrian chaired the Scientific Advisory Committee of European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) from 2006 to 2009 and the Political Advisory Committee of European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) from 2009 to 2011.
