The European Investment Bank (EIB) is the European Union's financing institution. Its shareholders are the 27 Member States of the Union. The EIB supports the development of efficient, reliable and secure transport systems in its countries of operations in six lines of transport: aviation, ports, railways, roads, shipping and logistics. Since 1990, the EIB has invested more than €200 billion in the transport sector.
Moreover, the EIB promotes the development of cleaner and safer vehicles by increasingly focusing its lending to the automotive industry on research and development.
The EIB also finances sustainable transport projects in many regions outside the EU, where it seeks to apply the same quality standards as in the Union.
