Global Fuel Economy Initiative 2012-2015 Organised by the Global Fuel Economy InitiativeSide EventsWednesday, 2 May 201209:00 to 12:00Room BK3, Level 0tabsOutlineWe face a near tripling of the number of cars on the planet by 2050, the vast bulk in emerging economies. Whilst improved mobility is essential to economic development, any gains from this growth will be offset by the negative impacts of pollution, congestion, energy and resource depletion, and environmental damage which will follow. Improved fuel economy is essential if we are to address some of these negative implications. The Global Fuel Economy Initiative (www.globalfueleconomy.org) is a partnership of the IEA, UNEP, ITF and FIA Foundation which works to secure real improvements in fuel economy, and the maximum deployment of existing fuel economy technologies in vehicles across the world. The Initiative promotes these objectives through in-country policy support, analysis and advocacy, and will present its work during RIO+20. This event will showcase the GFEI's new workplan for the 2012-15.Global Fuel Economy Initiative AgendaSpeakers:Kurt VAN DENDER, Chief Economist, International Transport ForumLew FULTON, Head of Division, Internaional Energy AgencyDuleep GOPALAKRISHNAN, President, HD SystemsStephen PERKINS, Head of Research, International Transport ForumPhilippe SCHULZ, Expert Leader Environment - Energy - Strategic Raw Materials, RenaultMichael WALSH, Char, International Council on Clean TransportationSheila WATSON, Executive Secretary, GFEI.
